North Carolina-headquartered utility Duke Energy has agreed to sell a minority stake in a roughly 1.2GW portion of its renewable energy portfolio for US$1.25 billion.
Major US utility Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) is planning to build the world’s largest battery energy storage system adjacent to an existing solar power plant, with plans to roll out multiple other storage systems across the state.
The installation will be used to provide “critical peaking capacity” and “increased” grid reliability. AES will provide a system with a four-hour duration based on Fluence’s Advancion platform. It will be leased under a 20-year contract with AES the owner and operator of the project.
Schneider Electric will perform an expansion of its microgrid project at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar in order to boost grid resilience at the facility.
While market opportunities for energy storage in Texas are considered to be limited, the largest battery project in the state so far, a 42MWh system, has just come online.
