We caught up with Kevin Huang, Senior Vice President and President of Energy Storage Product Line at Envision Energy at Smarter E in Munich for a video interview on the company’s energy storage strategy and the growing role of AI data centres in power demand.

Mr. Huang argued that the next wave of competition in energy storage will not be won on cost or container size alone, which is why Envision is positioning itself as a system-level energy infrastructure provider, delivering integrated power systems rather than standalone hardware.

He outlined four pillars: its AI Power System solution; grid-forming technology for voltage and frequency support; automated trading capabilities to help customers generate revenue; and hybrid wind-storage solutions to accelerate deployment and boost power generation.

Commenting on AI data centres, Mr. Huang stressed that the critical challenge here is not how much power is needed but that the power is reliable, low-carbon, cost-competitive and available around the clock. Envision’s total power system approach coordinates wind, solar, grid and storage infrastructure as a single integrated system, a model already deployed in the Chifeng and Ulanqab regions of Inner Mongolia, where data centres are directly connected to renewable generation with grid storage and grid-forming capabilities.
