The Dutch municipality of Noordoostpolder has submitted a draft zoning plan for one of the first gigawatt-hour scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in the Netherlands.

Developer-operator SemperPower has brought online its second large-scale BESS in the Netherlands in the space of a month, a 68MWh system, the largest in the country.
