Residential energy storage startup Base Power is collaborating with utility Denton County Electric Cooperative (CoServ) to deploy 100MW of residential energy storage across North Texas, US.

Base Power claims this is its largest agreement to date and that the partnership will create one of the largest distributed energy resource (DER) programmes led by a Texas electric cooperative.

Base Power deploys a fleet of networked residential battery systems that can act as a virtual power plant (VPP).

Through the programme, Base Power will install a network of interconnected residential battery energy storage systems (BESS) at the homes of qualifying customers within CoServ’s service area. This will give CoServ dispatchable capacity to help stabilise the grid during peak electricity demand periods.

Base Power will manage system installation and ongoing maintenance. For homeowners with existing solar setups, Base can connect the battery to be powered either by the homeowner’s solar system or the grid, based on availability.

In October 2025, Base Power raised US$1 billion in Series C financing from venture capital fund Addition. The company has also qualified for Texas’s Aggregated Distributed Energy Resource (ADER) programme, enabling distributed batteries to be combined and bid directly into the grid.

In February, Base Power announced a residential DER pilot programme with utility El Paso Electric Company (EPE).

Similar to the CoServ programme, the batteries will be installed at qualifying residential customer homes and integrated into EPE’s system to provide grid services during peak demand periods, while also maintaining backup power for customers during outages.

The partnership was selected through EPE’s Residential Distributed Energy Storage Pilot Programme (DESPP), which aims to deploy up to 10MW of residential energy storage ahead of the 2026 summer peak.

Base Power’s ‘Gen 1’ battery has an 11.4kW/25kWh capacity and has UL 1973, UL 1741, UL 9540, and UL 9540A certifications.

Notably, the company claimed that the CoServ programme marks Base’s fifth utility collaboration in Texas, which it hopes to use as a proven model for rapidly deploying storage capacity.
