Romania BESS project Allview TrinaStorage

Technology group Visual Fan subsidiary Allview has partnered with Trina Storage to deploy a 65MWh BESS project in Romania.

The energy storage subsidiary of solar PV giant Trinasolar has teamed up with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm Allview to deploy the Toplita project in Harghita County, which Visual Fan announced it would be building last month.

Trina Storage will supply a DC-side solution with 16 of its Elementa 2 battery energy storage system (BESS) units, and the firm said the plan is part of a multi-gigawatt-hour deployment plan in Europe.

“Toplița is an important step for us—not just as our first project in Romania, but as a signal of Trina Storage’s long-term commitment to the Eastern European market,” said Gabriele Buccini, head of Trina Storage Europe.

Allview, meanwhile, is providing the full AC scope, including power conversion system (PCS) and MV (medium-voltage) infrastructure.

Visual Fan/Allview have said the project is for power services and trading firm Renovatio Trading. In an announcement in January, Renovatio Trading said the project is a beneficiary of Romania’s EU Recovery and Resilience-backed capex support scheme, finalised in late 2024. The scheme could provide support to as many as 2.5GWh of BESS projects all in all.

Since the scheme’s winning projects were finalised, numerous large-scale projects have progressed to contracting EPCs and BESS suppliers, including ones from developers and IPPs Güri̇ş Group, R.Power, Electrica and Hidroelectrica.

Renovatio’s Toplita project will be online by June 2026, and will require a total investment of RON 126.5 million (€24.5 million).

Last month also saw energy regulator ANRE (National Energy Regulatory Authority) end the double taxation of energy storage on the grid, in a show of support for the technology.

We interviewed Juan Ceballos, Trina Storage head of sales for Europe, for an ESN Premium article earlier this year about the firm’s approach to selling across the continent.

Another China-based firm, lithium-ion and BESS OEM Hithium, has made Romania a strategic focus within Europe, announcing a partnership with Israel-headquartered EPC firm El Mor for long-duration energy storage (LDES) projects specifically in Romania.
