What are the system needs that LDES is going to solve, and what technologies are most appropriate for those applications?

An expert panel dived into the topic on the ‘Technology Choices for Long Duration Energy Storage (LDES)’ discussion at the Energy Storage Summit 2026 in London in February, which you can watch a video recording of further down. The panel featured:

  • Sam Wilks, Clean Power Analyst, Energy Transitions Commission (moderator)
  • Marek Kubik, Independent, Board Advisor
  • Dan Moore, Head of Asset Management, Root Power
  • James Mills, Managing Director, Adaptogen Capital
  • Oonagh O’Grady, Vice President, International Origination, Hydrostor
  • Osamudiame Evbuomwan, Senior Manager, Baringa

The panel came immediately after another long-duration energy storage session which was focused more around the business and economic case for investing in LDES, in the context of the UK and its cap-and-floor scheme. You can watch that video in full here.
