Independent power producer (IPP) Verano Energy has awarded the battery energy storage system (BESS) supply for its 152MW/606MWh Observatorio project to Sungrow.
Activity in Italy’s grid-scale market is accelerating, with Sonnedix and the Strioga Family Foundation acquiring projects totalling over 1GWh combined, while BNZ and RWE have ordered BESS from Sungrow and LONGi respectively totalling 540MWh.
In 2025, BESS installations surpassed 320GWh, a y-o-y increase of over 50%. While this tells one-side of the story, the growth in cell and system shipments tells an even more significant one, writes Benchmark’s Iola Hughes.
Activity in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) continues to accelerate, with two separate c.600MWh projects completed in Bulgaria by Solarpro & CATL and Sunotec and Sungrow, plus around 800MWh of capacity progressed across Romania, Estonia, Lithuania, and Finland.
Battery storage developer and operator Spearmint Energy has closed a US$450 million financing to support its 300MW/600MWh Red Egret battery energy storage system (BESS) project.
