
Independent power producer (IPP) Verano Energy has awarded the battery energy storage system (BESS) supply for its 152MW/606MWh Observatorio project to Sungrow.
Under the agreement, the Chinese PV inverter and BESS producer Sungrow will provide its PowerTitan 2 units to the project.
Located in the O’Higgins region, central Chile, the project will be hybridised with a 135MW solar PV plant, for which Sungrow is also providing its SG350HX-20 inverters. Commercial operation of the project is expected to begin in the first half of 2028.
Chilean utility Copec EMOAC will offtake the project’s electricity.

On top of the BESS supply agreement, Sungrow will provide a 25-year long-term service agreement (LTSA), with the aim of ensuring the system’s operational availability, performance, and reliability throughout its entire service time.
According to Verano Energy, Observatorio represents a strategic project within its Chilean renewables portfolio as it incorporates energy storage as a key element to maximise the value of renewable energy generation and address the electrical system’s flexibility challenges.
“Incorporating energy storage allows us to harness the full potential of our solar resource, bring greater flexibility to the electricity system, and offer solutions that meet the needs of a market increasingly geared towards the integration of renewable energy,” said Tomás Anuch, chief operating officer at Verano Energy.
Present in Latin America, Verano Energy’s main markets are concentrated in Chile and Colombia. It has so far developed more than 60 solar PV projects with a combined capacity of 800MW+. The IPP currently has a portfolio of more than 2.5GW of renewables and over 2GWh of BESS projects at different stages of development.
In Chile, the Domeyko Solar + BESS project is at the most advanced stage and combines 83MWp solar PV with 660MWh BESS. The project recently reached a key milestone by completing the unloading and full installation of its BESS system. The Domeyko solar-plus-storage project is expected to begin commercial operations at the end of 2026, the company closed financing on the solar-plus-storage project in September 2025.
