Octopus Australia has referred the Blackstone battery energy storage system (BESS), a 500MW/2,000MWh standalone facility, to Australia’s federal government for assessment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act.

Octopus Australia has shifted its focus to constructing a DC-coupled battery energy storage system (BESS) in Victoria.

Habitat Energy has been appointed by Octopus Australia to provide optimisation services for two DC-coupled solar-plus-storage sites.

Octopus Energy Generation has partnered with ZE Energy to invest in and build one of Italy’s biggest BESS projects, while Eco Stor has secured financing for one of Germany’s, which it is already building. Optimiser Entrix has also won two large contracts in Germany and the Netherlands.

Wärtsilä will supply what it claims is the first large-scale DC-coupled hybrid battery connected to Australia’s NEM for Octopus Group.
