A roundup of large-scale BESS news from in and around the Nordic region, with Sweden-based Flower building a project in Germany, Volvo launching one in Sweden and Delta Capacity securing a toll for one in Finland. 

A roundup of large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) projects being financed, acquired or contracted in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland and Romania. 

Delta Capacity has brought online the Nordic region’s biggest project to date and has acquired another project that would be almost twice the size.

US sodium-ion (Na-ion) battery startup Alsym Energy and consulting organisation for the mining and energy sectors, Erity, have signed a 9GWh strategic relationship agreement (SRA) for global mining use-cases.

Activity in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) continues to accelerate, with two separate c.600MWh projects completed in Bulgaria by Solarpro & CATL and Sunotec and Sungrow, plus around 800MWh of capacity progressed across Romania, Estonia, Lithuania, and Finland.

Rolls-Royce and Fluence have secured BESS orders in Latvia and Poland, respectively, while CATL has partnered with Merus Power for 3GWh of deployments across Northern Europe.

Large-scale BESS projects have been progressed to construction, financing or operations across the EU this week, by project owners, investors and EPC firms re:cap, LONGi, Teos, Flower, Goldbeck Solar, SPP and Tavion.

TotalEnergies is pushing ahead with a co-located battery storage and gigawatt-scale wind project in Kazakhstan, Central Asia.  

Czech investment group Wood & Company (Wood & Co) has hired construction and optimisation partners for large-scale battery storage projects in Finland and Sweden.

Terna, the transmission system operator (TSO) of Italy, has approved the grid connection for a 500MW/3GWh BESS project. Meanwhile several smaller projects have progressed across the rest of Europe.
