Oil major Shell is to purchase 20MW of energy storage from Advanced Microgrid Solutions (AMS).

Shell Energy North America will install the capacity at its commercial, industrial and utility customer sites in California.

The two companies will collaborate to find new and existing customers interested in buying battery systems. AMS will design, finance, build and operate the projects. Shell will retain dispatch rights on capacity for use in planning and market operations.

“We are thrilled to be working with Shell Energy on a new fleet of hybrid-electric buildings in California,” said Katherine Ryzhaya, chief commercial officer. AMS. “This collaboration will allow Shell Energy customers to save money while contributing to grid modernisation and resiliency,” claimed Ryzhaya.
