Greensmith, the California-based provider of energy storage software and integration services, has partnered with energy equipment manufacturer Wärtsilä to deliver storage systems globally.

Under the terms of the cooperation, Wärtsilä is to provide energy storage systems integrated with solar PV and its Smart Power Generation power plant to form a hybrid energy solution.

The entire system to is to be powered by Greensmith’s software-based plant controller (GEMS) that interacts directly with the battery, the power control system (PCS) and the battery management system (BMS). Greensmith’s GEMS software today is the most widely-deployed energy storage software. For its part, Wärtsilä will assume EPC and O&M services to customers worldwide.

The hybrid energy system offering by the joint efforts of the two companies is to provide a consistent, reliable, sustainable and affordable source of power. Such systems are particularly economical in remote or island communities where access to the national grid is limited and/or microgrids are in use. The pairing of solar PV with storage systems to utilise self-consumption of solar enables the burden of variable generation to be balanced on the grid.
