Industry-watchers will closely follow how the recently completed acquisition of energy storage system integrator NEC ES by LG Energy Solution pans out.

LG Energy Solution, the battery technology arm of South Korea’s LG Group, has completed its acquisition of 100% ownership in battery energy storage system (BESS) integrator NEC ES.

LG Energy Solution has acquired NEC Energy Solutions (NEC ES), the NEC Corporation subsidiary focused on energy storage which announced its exit from the industry last year. 

The new NEC system installed east of Zürich will be used largely for frequency stabilisation.

The fact that lithium-ion batteries experience degradation over time with use should not necessarily be a limiter for their widespread use in stationary storage systems, but requires long-term strategies for their management.
