BESS and flexible generation provider Statera Energy has secured £235 million (US$309 million) in debt financing for its 680MW/1,360MWh Carrington BESS project in Manchester, UK.
The 2-hour duration project at Trafford Low Carbon Energy Park in Greater Manchester began construction in autumn 2025, with energisation expected by 2027.
According to the firm, the project builds on its 1GW strategic partnership with Norwegian state-backed Statkraft, which will provide route-to-market (RTM) services, and will be delivered with Envision Energy supplying the battery energy storage system (BESS) units.
Tom Vernon, CEO, Statera Energy, said: “Reaching financial close on Carrington Storage is a major milestone for Statera.”

“It moves us closer to our goal of over 5GW of BESS capacity operational by 2030, strengthening grid flexibility and supporting the UK’s clean energy transition. We’re grateful to our banking partners for their support and look forward to building on this milestone as we deliver our upcoming projects.”
Siemens, Siemens Energy, AECOM, Hitachi Energy and local partners ACS Construction Group and Roger Bullivant Limited will support delivery. The plant is expected to create over 200 jobs locally. Statera also builds and operates gas and hydrogen-powered plants in the UK.
