IPP Greenvolt has agreed to sell two BESS in Poland to A&R, PGE Group has started building an 800MWh one, while SC Holding, Tauron and Tavion have launched projects into the country.

Greenvolt Power selling two projects to A&R Investments

The transaction for the two battery energy storage system (BESS) projects of 200MW/800MWh each, totalling 400MW/1,600MWh, was announced last week (23 October).

A&R Investments is a Malta-based investment firm while Greenvolt is a developer and independent power producer (IPP), and the transaction will close by the end of the year.

Both projects were completed in Q3 2026, Greenvolt said. Turośń KoÅ›cielna entered commercial operations in July while EÅ‚k was previously said to be targeting commercial operations in Q4 2026.

Both projects were supplied by Chinese EV and BESS firm BYD.

Both projects also have 17-year capacity market (CM) contracts with delivery obligations starting in 2028, part of a portfolio that Greenvolt dominated BESS wins for in the 2023 CM auction. The CM is the bedrock of the business case for Poland, which is transitioning away from coal towards a combination of gas and renewables.

Greenvolt then entered into a 10-year toll for the two projects with Norwegian state-owned power company Statkraft, announced earlier this month. Greenvolt had previously announced optimiser Entrix as trader for its Poland projects, and a spokesperson for the IPP told Energy-Storage.news in October as it signed the Statkraft deal: “our battery storage projects have agreements with Statkraft, while Entrix is also involved in the projects through its cooperation with Statkraft. So both companies are involved.”

Greenvolt launched construction on another of its Poland BESS projects, the 600MW/2,400MWh Siedlce system, last month. Meanwhile, it sold two Poland projects totalling 300MW/1,200MWh to Northland Power last year.

All-in-all, Greenvolt’s five Poland projects total 1.3GW/5.2GWh, and it has now sold four out of five of them.

In an interview with Energy-Storage.news Premium (subscription required), head of storage Antonio Montoto Rojo explained that the company’s storage team deploys projects assuming they will be Greenvolt owned-and-operated, and a separate team decides whether to sell or keep them.

The news comes a few weeks after the Energy Storage Summit Central Eastern Europe (CEE) 2026, held in Warsaw by our publisher Solar Media.

PGE Group starts building 400MW/800MWh

In related news, state-owned power company PGE Group has announced construction on its 400MW/800MWh Gryfino BESS project in Nowy Czarnów, Poland, expected online in 2028.

It is being built adjacent to existing PGE power assets, with an investment of PLN1.14 billion (US$289 million).

A consortium of Polish companies will build the project while the BESS will be provided by system integrator Fluence, using its Smartstack AC block technology.

PGE launched a tender for the construction of the BESS project in August last year.

“Projects such as Gryfino Energy Storage show that we are building not only new generation capacities, but also solutions that allow for effective energy management and increasing the system’s resilience to changing operating conditions,” said Konrad Wojnarowski, Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Energy, at a groundbreaking ceremony.

Tauron buys 120MWh Poland project

Another state-controlled power company Tauron Group has acquired the BME Jawor, 28.27MW/120MWh BESS project in Poland from developer Griffin Group Energy. The project will come online in February 2027 and has a CM contract starting in 2029.

Claritas and Sun Res JV buys 30MW BESS projects

SC Holding, a joint venture (JV) between investors Claritas and Sun Res Holding, has acquired two BESS projects in Poland together totalling 30MW. One is ready-to-build while the other is expected to reach that milestone by the end of the year.

Tavion launches construction on first BESS projects in Poland

BESS owner-operator Tavion has started building its first projects in Poland. It has broken ground on a 20MW/40MWh project in Bydgoszcz, set for operations in Q2 2027, and will break ground on another in Luboń within two weeks followed by a third. Chinese BESS integrator HyperStrong is providing its tech for the project.
