Obama announces raft of energy storage actions

President Obama has announced a raft of activity focussing on the development, investment and regulatory framework for energy storage.

The plans include 1.3GW of additional storage procurement and US$130 million of new investment as well as US military projects and support for rural community storage ventures.

Grid operators and utilities including ConEdison, Duke Energy, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power and PG&E revealed new procurement programmes.

Investors include DBL Partners and Hannon Armstrong. Sonnen committed to deploying 20,000 behind the meter systems in the next three years and solar installer Sunrun said it would roll storage out across most states it is active in within five years.
