ESN brings exclusive energy storage content to latest PV Tech Power journal

Our publisher Solar Media produces the quarterly technical journal PV Tech Power, aimed at the downstream end of the solar PV industry, and the September 2017 edition, Volume 12 in the series, is available now.

We’ll be taking print copies over to some key industry events over the next few weeks, including Energy Storage International, co-located with Solar Power International (SPI) in Las Vegas, USA (10-13 September), Solar & Storage Live in Birmingham, England (3-5 October) and the PV ModuleTech conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (7,8 November).

However, if you can’t make it to those shows, or you can’t wait, at the bottom of this preview, you can go straight to downloading an online PDF copy.

Energy-Storage.News presents: Storage & Smart Power

While energy storage has long been a topic covered by the journal, as of this edition, the all-new Storage & Smart Power section of PV Tech Power Vol.12 is brought to you by Energy-Storage.News, with features and technical articles commissioned by our editorial team.

This issue includes:

Steps states can take to advance energy storage – a high-level look at the US industry and specifically the role state governments and agencies have to play in the development of energy storage markets and the industry, by Todd Olinsky-Paul of the Clean Energy States Alliance.

UK storage charges ahead – Britain’s government has put energy storage at the forefront of its industrial strategy. This is creating the right conditions for what could be a boom in years to come, Solar Media journalist David Pratt reports, while analyst Lauren Cook offers an interpretation of existing development pipelines.

Grid-connected energy storage: implementation and risk management – technical services group DNV GL has, along with some 200 other stakeholders in the industry, created GRIDSTOR, a standardisation document that looks at safety, operation and performance of grid-connected energy storage. DNV GL’s Dr Martijn Huibers and Paul Raats discuss GRIDSTOR and some of the specific challenges it can help solve, from system sizing to risk mitigation for investors.

10 of the best storage system integrators – the Solar Media editorial team brings you a series of short profiles on some of the top companies working to deploy grid-scale energy storage around the world. These companies are designing systems, solving problems, executing projects and helping to shape the industry around us.

We are very excited to have had this level of direct input into the journal and we hope you will enjoy reading.

Solar PV

This edition’s cover feature is a special report on bifacial PV modules, which, as the name suggests, is the generation of power from both the front and back-sides of solar panels. There are three in-depth technical articles on the topic, including one from the eminent Dr Radovan Kopecek of ISC Konstanz.

Other topics covered on the PV side include: module failure detection, the role of robotics, executing commercial scale projects, a summary of the core arguments involved in the US ITC section 201 vote and much more.
