Denmark’s largest energy company Orsted – formerly known as DONG Energy – has announced the completion of its first large-scale grid-connected energy storage project, a 20MW standalone battery system in Liverpool, England.
Jardelund, Germany, is now host to what is currently Europe’s largest battery energy storage system, a 50MWh project completed and announced just a few days ago by NEC Energy Solutions.
Ørsted has selected NEC Energy Solutions to provide the battery system for its largest UK energy storage to date, which will see a 20MW battery deployed near Liverpool.
The CEO of Orsted, the world’s largest offshore wind developer, has said that his company is working to establish “a scalable commercial model” for solar PV and energy storage, viewing both as potential drivers of long-term growth.
