Europe needs to act now to prevent an outflow of investment from its burgeoning battery manufacturing ecosystem in light of the US’ Inflation Reduction Act, the EU-founded European Battery Alliance (EBA) has said.

Digital software company Capgemini is partnering with battery energy storage startup Verkor to help bring to life a 16GWh-capacity lithium-ion cell factory in France.

The past few days have seen various announcements across the lithium-ion battery production value chain in Europe, Australia and the US.

Lithium has been added to a list of raw materials deemed essential to secure supply in Europe, for the first time ever, by the European Commission.
