
Kehua Digital Energy has supplied its BCS1250K-C-HUD series power conversion systems (PCS) for a landmark 50 MW/100 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Hanoi, Vietnam. The five BESS units, featuring battery systems supplied by VinEnergo and integrated by ACIT, were deployed across five 110 kV substations for EVN Hanoi, the project owner, marking the first large-scale energy storage application on the capital city’s power grid.
The five 10MW/20MWh BESS units are installed across the Bac Thang Long, Quang Minh, Sai Dong 2, Phung Xá and Thanh Oai 110kV substations. After the other four units had been commissioned, the final system at Bac Thang Long was energized on 5 July. Equipped with Kehua’s PCS, the systems are designed to store electricity during off-peak periods and discharge during peak load hours, providing frequency regulation and load management services that enhance the flexibility and reliability of Hanoi’s grid.

The BESS deployment supports EVN Hanoi’s grid operations by storing electricity and discharging it during peak load periods, which contributes to load management and enhances the reliability of Hanoi’s power supply. As electricity demand in the capital continues to rise, particularly during hot weather, the systems provide a critical technical tool for maintaining secure and stable power delivery.
Serving as a key foundation for EVN Hanoi, the pilot project enables the evaluation of energy storage system performance in real-world conditions. It aligns with Vietnam’s strategic direction for smart grid development, grid modernization and the integration of renewable energy sources, while also demonstrating Kehua’s capability to deliver high-performance PCS technology for landmark energy storage projects in emerging markets.
