Hitachi Energy officially launched yesterday, rebranded from Hitachi ABB Power Grids, the business Japanese tech company Hitachi acquired an 80.1% stake in, in July 2020. 

Power electronics giant Hitachi has acquired ABB’s power grids business in an US$11 billion (£8.7 billion) deal which cements its position in the energy solutions sector.

Battery installations are underway at a European Regional Development Fund-backed project deploying low carbon infrastructure on the Isles of Scilly, in a model that it is hoped could be widely replicated elsewhere.

Australia-based Ecoult has been selected by German developer Freqcon to install its UltraBattery lead-acid ultracapacitor hybrid for energy storage at South Dublin’s Tallaght Smart Grid Testbed.
