An auction for 700MW of grid energy capacity in Portugal is being configured to allow bids from solar and also solar-plus-storage projects to participate on a competitive basis, with guaranteed payments for energy storage co-located projects to use a capping mechanism in the event of ‘price spikes’.
Timed to coincide with this week’s EU elections, a set of 10 recommendations to “kick start” energy storage has been unveiled by European trade association EASE.
The UK’s energy regulator has taken what appears to be an encouraging viewpoint on “double charging” of energy storage, clarifying the definition of the technology’s role in the grid, according to one expert view.
