Singapore’s government and Energy Market Authority have announced power sector and grid enhancements, including a possible expansion of Southeast Asia’s biggest battery storage plant.

Putting battery storage systems onto vessels off the coast of Singapore could be a way to mitigate the lack of suitable sites on land.

Singapore has surpassed its 2025 energy storage deployment target, with the official opening of Southeast Asia’s biggest BESS.

Updated: Singapore’s Energy Market Authority (EMA) will trial the use of lithium batteries and redox flow energy storage to help integrate renewable energy onto its grid, delivering services both in-front and behind-the-meter.

Singapore is set to create a US$25 million fund for energy storage, as part of a raft of strategic measures aimed at meeting “significant shifts” in the energy sector, which will also include investment in research for integration of solar and cutting times for grid connection.
