Canadian manufacturer Sentinel Solar has announced a ‘plug-and-play’ energy storage system, the AHI Wave ESS, for residential use.
Designed for solar and storage applications, the new battery is based on the “safest, cleanest and most reliable battery chemistry ever,” according to its maker. The Ontario-based firm said it “closes the loop in the clean energy cycle” as a sustainably developed means to produce, store and consume clean energy.
The AHI Wave ESS features minimal hardware and simplified wiring inputs, allowing for easy installation and set-up. Its base unit affords a continuous 4kW output, which can be expanded with energy demands. It also requires no active maintenance, according to its maker.
The AHI Wave ESS offers solutions for peak load shaving, grid stabilisation, self-consumption and remote power applications.

Sentinel partnered with US firms Aquion Energy and Outback Power on the system; it integrates a battery from the former and an inverter from the latter, including all wiring and communications devices.
Aquion claims its popular Aqueous Hybrid Ion (AHI) batteries, including the Aspen range used in the AHI Wave ESS, are non-flammable and non-explosive, and certified for their sustainable components, which include no heavy metals or toxic chemicals.
Adam Webb, president and chief executive at Sentinel Solar, said: “Renewable energy sources such as solar and wind have vast potential to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions in the electric sector but rapid adoption of these sources have been stalled due to the lack of sustainable and reliable energy storage capability.
“The AHI Wave’s complete energy storage solution addresses the issues faced by varying power demands and intermittent production from renewable energy sources.”
Aquion Energy ranked second on Mercom Capital Group’s latest report into the best storage companies for venture capital funding in the second quarter, securing US$33 million from undisclosed investors.
