Nightpeak Energy has announced commercial operations of its 150MW/300MWh Bocanova Power battery energy storage system (BESS) in Brazoria County, Texas, US.
Bocanova Power, located approximately 24 miles south of downtown Houston, Texas, began commercial operation in August 2025.
The project uses Tesla’s Megapack 2 XL battery storage system, and is operating under a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with an unnamed “investment grade power purchaser.”
Tesla recently launched its Megapack 3 solution. That product has an inverter and fire protection system, boasting what Tesla describes as “a drastically simplified thermal bay with 78% fewer connections.” It will also be utilised in the company’s 20MWh Megablock storage solution.

Nord/LB and MUFG Bank acted as co-lead arrangers for the debt financing, which comprised a tax equity bridge loan, a construction-to-term loan, and letters of credit. Additionally, traditional tax equity partnership financing was employed for this deal.
Nightpeak was established in 2022 by four former colleagues from Recurrent Energy, the US-based solar PV development subsidiary of Canadian Solar, a vertically integrated solar manufacturer.
The Texas-based investment firm Energy Spectrum Capital has supported the developer with up to US$200 million in equity funding, drawn from its nearly US$1 billion Energy Spectrum Partners Fund VIII.
Nightpeak also stated at that time that it had the backing of a major US lender. Although the financial terms were not disclosed, it was understood to be in the form of a letter of credit facility. With funding from both sources, the developer claims it can effectively pursue its strategic goals.
Paris Hays, Co-founder and CEO/CDO of Nightpeak said of the Bocanova Power project:
“We submitted an interconnection request for Bocanova Power in mid-2023 and just two years later, this 150MW project is providing flexible, dispatchable capacity to the Texas grid.”
Hays also stated that the company now owns and operates 240MW of battery storage and natural gas generation facilities.
