SimpliPhi to give home energy storage market Hollywood treatment

SimpliPhi Power will enter the residential and light-commercial storage market with its non-toxic lithium ferrous phosphate battery.

The company claims it can eliminate the need for any thermal mitigation and operates at 98% efficiency. Its products have been used by the military and in Hollywood and will be offered more widely after the launch at the Solar Power International (SPI) convention in California next week. Movie sets the company has previously provided storage to include Avatar and Tron Legacy, the company said.

“Whether for residential, commercial, emergency, military or entertainment markets, our customers use SimpliPhi’s energy storage solutions for power security and resilience on or off the grid, as well as for peak shaving,” said Catherine Von Burg, CEO, SimpliPhi Power. “Our products do not generate heat or require ventilation or cooling and do not pose the risk of thermal runaway characteristic of lithium cobalt based batteries, and this creates significant efficiencies and savings for any given installation,” she claimed.

SimpliPhi is teaming up with Schneider Electric, ZeroBase Energy and Lotus Energy to make its case for eliminating cobalt chemistry from lithium-ion storage.

“We have been very impressed with SimpliPhi products’ ability to be able to replace lead acid batteries directly with much higher performance as well as having no need for ventilation or cooling,” said Doug Wicks, product manager for off-grid systems and battery-based inverters, Schneider Electric.

The company will exhibit at booth 7505 at this year’s SPI in Anaheim.
