
Sineng Electric has supplied its advanced 6.9 MW central PCS MV turnkey stations for a 150 MW/300 MWh energy storage system at the landmark Burgas BESS project in Bulgaria. With a total capacity of 602 MWh, the project is the largest operational battery energy storage facility in Eastern Europe to date.
Executed by leading European EPC and O&M contractor Solarpro Technology, the Burgas BESS increases the country’s total energy storage capacity by 10%, providing essential balancing capabilities for large-scale wind and solar generation while improving the stability, flexibility and reliability of the national electricity grid.
Sineng supplied its 6.9 MW central PCS MV turnkey station, which integrates four EH-1725-HA-UD central PCS units, a transformer and RMU into a compact design. The solution supports 1/2/4/6/8-hour storage durations to meet diverse project requirements and, by reducing parallel connections by 50%, the PCS optimizes system design and enhances operational reliability. Featuring a modular design, the Sineng solution simplifies maintenance and minimizes downtime, ensuring high system availability throughout the project lifecycle and delivering full four-quadrant reactive power capability together with advanced grid-forming functionality.
The standalone battery energy storage facility is designed to deliver multiple grid services, including peak shaving, load shifting, Frequency Containment Reserves (FCR) and automatic Frequency Restoration Reserves (aFRR). By storing electricity during periods of lower demand and dispatching power during peak consumption periods, the system improves energy utilization efficiency while supporting grid balancing and renewable energy accommodation.
