JinkoSolar has announced an agreement for the supply of 100 MWh of its SunTera utility-scale BESS to an independent grid-side energy storage power station located in Southwest China. The project is scheduled to begin commercial operations during 2025.

SunTera’s containerized liquid-cooled BESS features a high level of safety, long service life and high integration. With IP55 and C5 anti-corrosion protection, it is also able to meet the requirements of harsh climatic conditions and extremely low temperatures.

The 5MWh SunTera liquid-cooled prefabricated cabin system is equipped with 314Ah in-house produced LFP battery cells. Compared with the previous generation 20-foot 3.44 MWh ESS, the 5MWh system has seen a 50% increase in energy density, saving some 30% on land and initial costs. Due to its advantages in cost reduction and efficiency improvement, especially in the current context of winning bids at low prices, the 5MWh system is expected to become the preferred technology route for large storage power stations next year.

However, higher energy density brings with it higher requirements for fire protection design, including water fire protection, gas fire protection and early warning exhaust detection. In addition to the high protection level of SunTera’s liquid-cooling PACK, which minimizes the temperature difference between batteries and reaches IP67 level and above, the use of PACK-level fire protection methods is also adopted.
