The Energy Storage Awards 2024 ceremony saw the European industry and its partners gather to celebrate the best technologies, brightest minds and sharpest business ideas.
The cold November weather in London did not deter guests from putting on their finest evening wear and making their way to the ballroom of the Hilton Bankside Hotel, where our team had assembled a stage and auditorium setup worthy of the occasion.

Hosted by our publisher Solar Media, and the producers of the world-leading Energy Storage Summit series and other conferences, the Energy Storage Awards 2024 provided everything a hard-working industry needed to enjoy a well-earned night of networking and socialising.
Comedian Jen Brister, who hosted the awards, did an excellent job of making everyone laugh with her opening standup routine and keeping energy levels up throughout the proceedings with her wit.
As one of the judges, I can attest to the challenge of picking winners from such a highly competitive field.
As my colleague Lucy Jacobson-Durham, head of the energy storage event portfolio at Solar Media, said in our opening speech, everybody in the industry deserves applause for their dedication and brilliance.
You can view the full list of winners of the Energy Storage Awards, as well as the Highly Commended trophy runners-up in each category below or on the official event site, but first, here are some highlights:
System Integrator of the Year Award – Fluence
Highly Commended – NHOA Energy
Fluence returned to win System Integrator of the Year for the second year running. Founded in 2017 as a joint venture between the AES Corporation in the US and Siemens in Germany, Fluence is, without doubt, a familiar name to regular readers of Energy-Storage.news.
The company is notable not just for its involvement in some of Europe’s largest and most strategically-important battery energy storage system (BESS) projects—such as Energy Cells’ Best EU Project of the Year winner in Lithuania (see below)—but also for pushing the envelope on new applications such as storage-as-a-transmission asset and advocating for reforms of European electricity markets.
Developer of the Year Award – Harmony Energy
Highly Commended – Kyon Energy
UK-headquartered developer, owner and operator of utility-scale BESS assets Harmony Energy took home the prestigious Developer of the Year trophy.
One of the UK’s most prolific developers since its first project went live in 2020, Harmony Energy is also at the ready-to-build stage with projects in France, Germany and Poland within Europe and developing projects further afield in New Zealand, too.
Operational projects include Pillswood (98MW/196MWh), the winner of last year’s Energy Storage Awards Grid-scale Standalone Energy Storage Project of the Year trophy and the subject of a deep dive case study for our quarterly journal PV Tech Power (Vol.35).
Outstanding Contribution to Energy Storage Award – Semih Oztreves, Zenobē Energy
Highly Commended – Benedikt Deuchert, Kyon Energy
This year’s Outstanding Contribution individual award went to Semih Oztreves, Global Director of Network Infrastructure at developer-investor Zenobē Energy.
Oztreves is a 12-year veteran of the energy storage industry, having been at pioneering Silicon Valley startup Greensmith Energy before its acquisition by Wärtsilä. He is also among those who have gone from a career of researching and analysing energy storage markets, to directly participating.
At a business development role at Wärtsilä Energy Storage & Optimisation (ES&O) he was pivotal in bringing the company’s battery storage solutions to hybrid renewable and conventional generation as well as standalone BESS projects across the European and Middle Eastern regions.
Semih Oztreves now oversees business development, project development, route-to-market commercial and engineering teams at Zenobē Energy.
Meanwhile, colleague Georgina Morris, who recently joined Zenobē as policy and public affairs lead after several years as head of Capacity Market policy at the UK’s government Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), took home the Rising Star Award for young achievers in the industry.
Zenobē’s 300MW/600MWh Blackhillock project in Scotland, featuring a pioneering grid-forming advanced inverter technology, was awarded the Best UK Project Over 100MW prize.
