Trina Storage has agreed a deal with Pacific Green to support the development of the 250MW/500MWh Limestone Coast North Energy Park battery energy storage system (BESS) in South Australia.
The energy storage arm of vertically integrated solar PV module and tracker manufacturer Trina Solar will supply energy storage cells, integrate battery cabinets and ensure system performance and warranty for the project.

The Limestone Coast North Energy Park, which the two companies have deemed a “pivotal project”, was recently sold to Intera Renewables in a deal worth AU$460 million (US$293 million). Intera is a renewable energy platform that is majority owned by funds managed by Palisade Investment Partners, an infrastructure and real assets manager based in Australia.
Pacific Green will oversee the project’s construction as part of the transaction until it becomes operational. Once this phase is complete, Palisade Integrated Management Services (PIMS) will take on asset management responsibilities in its role as Intera’s asset manager.
Du Yangfan, China managing director of Pacific Green Group, highlighted Trina Storage’s experience as one of the main reasons for the deal.
“Trina Storage possesses a comprehensive quality control system, extensive experience, and a stellar reputation in the industry. After thorough evaluation, we are confident that Trina Storage is the optimal partner for this collaboration,” Yangfan said.
Trina continues expansion into energy storage in Australia
Although Trina Storage’s parent company, Trina Solar, is predominantly in the solar PV market and known as a vertically integrated technology manufacturer, it is also exploring several projects in Australia as a developer.
For instance, the company wants to develop one of Australia’s largest BESS projects, a 660MW/2,640MWh battery in Wellesley, in the Shire of Harvey, Western Australia. Trina Solar submitted a planning application in September 2024.
The organisation also lodged a planning application for a 500MW/1,000MWh BESS in Victoria in November last year. The 2-hour BESS is being proposed for the Kiewa Valley in the Murray-Darling basin, to the east of Melbourne’s state capital. It is located within the Ovens Murray Renewable Energy Zone (REZ).
It will aim to bolster the state’s efforts to decarbonise by increasing the amount of available energy storage capacity on the National Electricity Market (NEM).
Meanwhile, to date, Trina’s battery storage system integrator arm Trina Storage has predominantly worked on BESS projects in China and the UK and deployed its first US utility-scale BESS projects in Massachusetts in 2024 for developer Lightshift Energy.
Commenting on the deal with Pacific Green, Yang Bao, global marketing president of Trina Solar, said: “Through our vertically integrated operations, Trina Storage has developed end-to-end cell-to-AC capabilities. Moving forward, we will accelerate strategic partnerships and continue creating value for our clients.”
The Limestone Coast Energy Park
Two grid-scale BESS assets will form part of US-headquartered energy storage developer Pacific Green’s broader Limestone Coast Energy Park development, comprising 500MW/1.5GWh of BESS combined. This includes the Limestone Coast North Energy Park BESS and the Limestone Coast West BESS, a 250MW/1,000MWh 4-hour duration system.
The park will be developed and constructed in two phases over a 36-month period. The first phase, the Limestone Coast North Energy Park BESS, is anticipated to be operational in 2027.
Pacific Green had previously said the ‘Energy Park’ would be capable of storing almost 60% of South Australia’s residential solar output for up to four hours.
Previous coverage by Energy-Storage.news revealed that the site is “strategically located” in the Limestone Coast region, close to the border of neighbouring state Victoria. An existing 275kVA substation is available to connect directly to it, 10km outside of Mount Gambier.
