The US must open up access to its grid and allow anyone who generates electricity to sell it on, according to an executive from energy storage company sonnen.

Speaking to Energy-Storage.News at InterSolar Europe, the company said that hardware alone was an insufficient offering if it was not paired with easily accessible services.

Philipp Schroeder, head of marketing and operations, sonnen, said the company’s community of system owners that can trade power amongst them could be the first sustainable business model for unsubsidised renewable energy.
