Construction of the first phase of what has been described as California’s biggest hybrid renewables-plus-storage project got underway earlier this month.

Utility Public Service Company of New Mexico’s (PNM) plan to procure energy from 950MW of solar and storage facilities by 2022 and replace its retiring 562MW San Juan Generating Station coal plant has been handed a boost.  

Canadian Solar’s project development subsidiary Recurrent Energy has signed a 15-year deal with California utility Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) for energy capacity from one of the world’s biggest battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
