Enel X will participate in a pilot in Ontario aggregating behind-the-meter battery storage and demand response.

The energy transition arm of Italy’s Enel Group has started construction on a 20MW/40MWh behind-the-meter battery energy storage system at Imperial Oil’s petrochemical complex in Sarnia, Ontario, which it claims will be the largest in North America.

Behind-the-meter battery storage projects announced last week in California and Ontario will cut electricity costs and carbon emissions for a variety of commercial and industrial (C&I) businesses.
