EPC firm Suvic has been enlisted by UK-based IPP Renewable Power Capital (RPC) for a 50MW/100MWh BESS in Finland using Sungrow technology.

Savic Oy will provide design, construction and substation works as well as electrical and mechanical installation for the 2-hour duration Kalanti battery energy storage system (BESS) project.

Works on the project in Uusikaupunki will start in April and construction will be completed in March 2026 for a commercial operation date (COD) by June 2026.

Inverter and BESS firm Sungrow will provide 20 units of its 2.5MW/5MWh PowerTitan 2.0 AC block BESS technology for the project, along with operations & maintenance (O&M) services over a 15-year period.

“Thanks to its C5 corrosion rating, the PowerTitan 2.0 supports installations in diverse and challenging environments” said Mr. Iñigo Cayetano, senior ESS product manager at Sungrow Iberica. The firm is one of the largest BESS suppliers globally.

The ceremony of the agreement between RPC and Sungrow took place during the recent Energy Storage Summit EU 2025 in London.

The Finnish grid-scale storage market has grown in the last few years off the back of high prices in the ancillary services, primarily mFRR, aFRR, FCR-N, FCR-D, and FFR, while opportunities in energy trading are also increasing as more renewables come online.

Just last week, Sweden-headquartered developer-operator Ingrid Capacity announced it would build a 70MW/140MWh project in Finland for a 2026 COD.

RPC is a platform company of the Canada Pension Plan Investments (CPP Investments) and is active across renewables with its BESS activity to-date mainly in the UK. Energy-Storage.news reported on its acquisition of late stage projects in early 2023 and early 2024 while our sister site Solar Power Portal covered its successful planning application for a project in January 2025.
