Kehua Digital Energy has participated in ENERGYEAR ITALIA 2026, officially launching the Italian edition of its “Enhancing System Stability through Grid-Forming Energy Storage Technologies” white paper. The event brought together representatives from academia, market research institutions, renewable energy companies and the broader energy ecosystem to exchange insights on how advanced energy storage technologies can support Europe’s transition toward a more stable, flexible and resilient power system.

The white paper launch session featured insights from experts and industry representatives, including Samuel Ernest, Principal Analyst at S&P Global Energy, Fabio Mandrile, Assistant Professor at Politecnico di Torino and Rossano Musca, Assistant Professor at Università degli Studi di Palermo. Together, they shared perspectives on grid stability challenges, evolving grid requirements and the role of grid-forming energy storage technologies in enabling the next generation of power systems.

As renewable energy penetration continues to increase across Europe, power systems are facing growing challenges related to reduced inertia, voltage stability and the integration of large-scale renewable projects. The white paper explores how grid-forming energy storage systems (ESS) can provide critical grid-supporting capabilities, including virtual inertia, voltage regulation and enhanced system stability, helping address the technical challenges brought by the transition toward renewable-based power systems.

With extensive experience in grid-forming technologies, Kehua has delivered more than 10 GW of grid-forming energy storage systems globally as of the first half of 2026, supporting diverse applications across different power system environments. Building on its technology expertise and global project experience, the company continues to work closely with customers to address evolving grid requirements and accelerate the transition from project development to successful grid connection.

During the event, Dobby Wu, Kehua’s Head of European Market Development, shared insights on Italy’s renewable energy and energy storage market development. Through discussions with industry participants, he highlighted the importance of early collaboration among project developers, grid-related stakeholders and technology providers to improve project readiness and reduce risks throughout the grid connection and commissioning process.

Regarding large-scale renewable energy and BESS projects in Italy, Wu explained that obtaining grid connection approval is only one milestone toward project success. A truly “grid-ready” project requires comprehensive preparation, including alignment with evolving grid requirements, appropriate technology selection, system integration planning and close coordination among all stakeholders throughout project development. He further emphasized that technology providers should be engaged at an early stage as grid requirements become increasingly dynamic — covering aspects such as inertia support, voltage regulation, system stability and potential grid-forming capabilities. Early technical collaboration can help optimize system design, reduce redesign risks and support smoother testing and commissioning processes.
