Jinko ESS is advancing a 20MWh stand-alone battery energy storage portfolio in Germany, comprising three merchant projects with capacities of 5MWh, 5MWh and 10MWh, creating a flexible platform for participation in the country’s evolving energy markets.

Stand-alone battery energy storage systems can respond rapidly to grid and market requirements without being tied to a specific generation asset. Through merchant applications, storage can capture multiple value opportunities while supporting the balancing, flexibility and resilience needs of a power system with a growing share of variable renewable energy.

The three-project structure combines targeted project sizes with a shared delivery approach. With two 5MWh systems and one 10MWh system, the portfolio is designed to provide adaptable storage capacity across different merchant use cases and market conditions.

The projects are built on the Jinko Tera liquid-cooled energy storage system (5.01MWh). Tuned for merchant trading, the system captures peak-valley spreads with a tested 94.1% conversion efficiency and low-power standby modes, while its grid-forming capability and fast response enable it to flexibly meet grid-balancing and regulation demands, providing a robust hardware foundation for the portfolio’s multi-scenario participation in spot and ancillary-services markets.

Jinko ESS GM for Europe Roberto Murgioni commented: “We are very pleased to build on our collaboration through this three-project portfolio. This portfolio shows how stand-alone BESS can provide targeted flexibility across projects of different sizes. We look forward to supporting their long-term success with reliable technology, operational expertise and close partnership.”
