Bulgarian microgrid solution and BESS specialist International Power Supply (IPS) has unveiled its EXERON X-BESS 8, a cutting-edge utility-scale BESS delivering a capacity of 8.1 MWhwith an integrated 4 MW inverter, all within the footprint equivalent of a 20-foot container.

The X-BESS 8’s compact architecture allows for simplified customization and future-proof scaling, significantly reducing balance of system (BOS), transportation and installation costs compared to traditional setups with separate enclosures.

The system, which will be showcased at ees Europe 2025 in Munich, features a liquid-cooled, three-level inverter topology achieving 99.5% efficiency, ensuring optimal performance under demanding conditions. Its modular design enables transportation and installation without specialized heavy-lifting equipment, with lightweight, sub-8-ton blocks that are fully plug-and-play. Each block includes standardized mechanical and electrical interfaces for rapid, low-complexity on-site integration.

The product employs high-performance 314Ah LFP cells, capable of up to 12,000 charge/discharge cycles, with IPS’s vertically integrated engineering and manufacturing process ensuring complete control over every critical subsystem, from mechanical and electrical design to embedded firmware.

Unlike solutions that rely on third-party components, IPS designs and manufactures all system components in-house, including inverters, thermal management systems, battery modules, packs and BESS housing. This integrated approach ensures mechanical, electrical and software subsystems are natively interoperable and optimized for performance, maintainability and reliability.

The company will open a new automated manufacturing facility in the Bulgarian capital Sofia in June, with the Class A plant launching with a 1.5 GWh annual capacity, scaling to 3 GWh by the end of 2025.
