In our latest video feature, we discussed the policy and regulatory space for energy storage in the UK with two leading members of the Solar Media Energy Storage Alliance.

In conversation with Andrew Bissell of heat battery maker Sunamp and David Hunt of specialist renewables recruitment firm Hyperion Executive Search, Energy Storage News editor Andy Colthorpe hears about how the UK’s energy storage industry could hit the ground running, having an immediate impact on the energy sector, both to integrate renewables and for the wider network benefit.

Taking place immediately after a committee event in central London earlier this year which was attended by industry, policymakers and other stakeholders, we took on some of the biggest topics and talking points facing energy storage and renewables policy in Britain and elsewhere, with two of the best-placed figures in the country.

-How the UK government is actively seeking input from the industry on the best ways to accommodate storage into the energy network, including markets – and what the industry should ask for.

-What technological standardisation could mean in terms of developing a mainstream energy storage industry – and the possible pitfalls.

-Why it’s easy to underestimate the influence of early adopters and why from the iPhone to the energy transition, “geeks can drive markets”.

Sunamp, Hyperion Executive Search and many others will be attending Solar Media's Energy Storage Summit at Twickenham Rubgy Stadium, London, on 28 April. The event - featuring 40 high-level speakers and three streams (residential, commercial and utility scale) - will address all the key issues related to storage deployment.
