Tesla announced its new integrated 20MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) solution, the Tesla Megablock, on 8 September in Las Vegas, US.
Megablock is a pre-engineered BESS solution combining four Tesla Megapacks, a transformer and switchgear.
According to Tesla, Megablock is designed for a capacity of 20MWh, with a 25-year lifespan and 91% round-trip efficiency at medium voltage.
The company also claims a 23% faster install time and up to 40% lower construction costs.

The BESS has a site-level density of 248MWh AC-per-acre with all clearances needed for installation and service.
Megablock utilises the company’s other newly announced energy storage solution, the Megapack 3. The two products were introduced at an event hosted by Tesla on the sidelines of the RE+ clean energy industry trade show taking place this week in Las Vegas. Tesla livestreamed the launch on its official X account last night.
Megapack 3 has an inverter and fire protection system, boasting what Tesla describes as “a drastically simplified thermal bay with 78% fewer connections.”
The new Megapack has been upgraded from 3.9MWh of capacity to 5MWh of capacity in a 28-foot unit.
Additionally, the company says its latest cell supply comes from the US, Southeast Asia, and China. 50GWh of annual output is to come from Houston.
Deliveries are scheduled to start in the second half of 2026.
During a recent earnings call, Tesla CEO Elon Musk noted that Megapack “is expanding capacity quickly.”
While this comment was referring to deployments of the company’s storage solution, Megablock would undoubtedly take the Megapack solution to a new level.
