Developer Atmos Renewables has successfully achieved financial close on its 400MWh Merredin battery energy storage system (BESS) in Western Australia.

AEMO has issued a call for 6-hour duration BESS in Western Australia to support grid reliability as coal-fired power plants are withdrawn.

Atmos Renewables has awarded construction company GenusPlus Group an AU$65 million (US$42 million) contract to build the 400MWh Merredin battery energy storage system (BESS) in Western Australia.

AEMO said that new energy storage capacity that has come online will play a key role in grid stability throughout the 2024-25 summer months.
