Two clean energy projects aimed at replacing a retiring Nevada coal power plant look set to go ahead, with their sale to utility NV Energy been given final approval from regulators.

Oregon-based utility company Portland General Electric intends to spend between US$50 million to100 million on around 39MW of energy storage, company executives have revealed.

Oregon has become the latest US state to lay out its foundations for electricity companies to procure and deploy energy storage systems, with the state Public Utility Commission (PUC) providing guidelines and timelines.

One of the largest investor-owned utilities in the USA is looking to use a series of measures that are likely to include customer-side energy storage in order to stave off the need for US$1 billion worth of infrastructure investment.
