KEPCO, South Korea’s biggest electric utility, has welcomed the start of commercial operations at a portfolio of large-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) assets.

South Korean industrial group Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has self-executed a solar-plus-storage project at its head offices in Changwon, using this and other projects on its own premises as a learning curve for external projects.

The South Korean government to incentivise solar power plants to install energy storage systems (ESS) from 2017, raising local ESS demand by US$390 million.
