AlphaESS has officially announced the launch of its latest product, Aster 5000, a next-generation 5MWh liquid-cooled energy storage system, fully integrated in a 20-foot container. Featuring a dual-core system with proprietary Active Balancing and liquid thermal management, it is designed to meet the growing global demand for safe, efficient and reliable long-duration energy storage worldwide.
The product features 12 clusters, each comprising 4 modules that utilize high-performance 314Ah battery cells to deliver a 5MWh capacity at a 0.5C system rating. Weighing 42.5 tons and with an IP55 rating, it operates reliably in extreme conditions from -40°C to 50°C. Its innovative single-door design enables back-to-back installation, increasing power density by 35% and reducing footprint by 40% compared to its predecessor, the previous generation Aster 3720, significantly lowering land and infrastructure costs.
Aster 5000 is among the first energy storage systems on the market to scale the use of the AlphaESS proprietary Active Balancing technology. Unlike traditional passive systems, Active Balancing continuously and precisely redistributes energy between battery cells in real time.
In parallel, the system features a fully integrated liquid cooling thermal management platform with four intelligent operation modes: cooling, heating, circulation and automatic fluid replenishment. Additional features such as active dehumidification and a low-noise fan design reduce operational noise levels, ensuring stable performance and a quieter project environment.
With safety as a top priority, the Aster 5000 is engineered to comply with major international standards, including IEC 62619 and 62933, UL 9540A and 1973 and NFPA68 and NFPA69.
The product is designed to accelerate the global shift toward renewable energy and long-duration storage. Its flexible architecture and broad compatibility make it ideal for 4 to 8+ hour discharge, grid peak shaving, frequency regulation, renewable energy integration and enhancing energy autonomy and resilience.
AlphaESS additionally provides comprehensive on-site support for the product, from project planning and installation to commissioning, technical training and long-term maintenance.
O&M is backed by expert technical training, fast fault response and spare parts management, ensuring reliable system performance over the product’s entire lifecycle.
Leveraging its global presence, AlphaESS operates over 40 subsidiaries and maintains a network of more than 300 service centres worldwide, the global footprint guaranteeing timely, localized and multilingual support to meet the needs of customers wherever their projects are located.
