Chinese multinational renewable energy solutions provider Envision Energy has partnered with developer FERA Australia to deliver 1,500MWh hybrid integrated wind and energy storage projects.

The partnership was signed during the Australian Energy Wind Conference in Melbourne, Victoria, and aims to establish a framework for delivering hybrid integrated projects with up to 1GW of wind generation alongside 1.5GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Envision confirmed that these hybrid sites would leverage its integrated technology platform, which combines advanced wind turbines, next-generation containerised BESS, grid-forming power conversion systems (PCS), and the company’s proprietary Hybrid Power Plant Controller (HPPC).

A pilot project will also be launched in Victoria, although a timeline for this has not been revealed at the time of reporting. It will feature Envision’s complete converter wind turbine, grid-forming battery storage, and HPPC technology in a grid-connected hybrid plant.

Each of the future hybrid integrated projects will be connected to the National Electricity Market (NEM), which spans Australia’s eastern and southern coasts, as well as the island state of Tasmania.

According to Kane Xu, senior vice president and president of Envision Energy’s international product line, the deal reiterates the company’s commitment to Australia while also helping to deliver new standards in performance and reliability.

FERA Australia, founded in 2019, is the regional entity of wind developer FERA SRL, which operates in Italy. It has a head office in Melbourne and aims to capitalise on Australia’s abundant wind generation potential.

According to the company’s website, it is currently developing four wind projects in Victoria, with a cumulative generation capacity of 1,098MW.

Envision expands reach into APAC

This is Envision Energy’s latest deal to help deepen its reach into key target markets across APAC. Last month, the company joined forces with Indonesian renewable energy company SUN Terra to collaborate on energy storage solutions in Southeast Asia, India, and Australia.

The partnership aims to accelerate the deployment of energy storage solutions, improve global supply chains and encourage the localisation of manufacturing and technological expertise.

Meanwhile, at the start of the year, the organisation inked a supply agreement to provide a 320MWh BESS to Juniper Green Energy in India.

Elsewhere in the world, Envision has also deepened its ties with Kazakhstan, with construction having commenced on a gigawatt-scale wind turbine and energy storage factory.

Representing a total investment of US$40 million, the plant will have an annual production capacity for 2GW of wind turbines and 1GWh of BESS solutions.
