We look at which BESS suppliers have supplied which UK project owner-operators, with data from our Solar Media Market Research colleagues.

The UK now has around 7GW/10GWh of grid-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity online, according to the Battery Storage: UK Pipeline & Completed Assets Database report from Solar Media Market Research.

The infographic below illustrates which suppliers and system integrators have supplied which final developers, though only for operational projects that are 49MWh or higher.

Each line represents a relationship, and some companies have supplied multiple projects.

By projects deployed, the largest providers are Tesla, CATL, Wärtsilä and Sungrow.

However over a node next to the name to see all a company’s relationships: the node next to the supplier for all their customers, and the node next to the developer to see all its suppliers (again, only for projects of 49MWh and above).

Note that the data doesn’t include projects where the BESS supplier or integrator was not publicly revealed or where Solar Media Market Research analysts were not able to obtain the information via proprietary research.

Research comes from press releases, certain documents within planning applications, and analyst relationships within the market to get non-publicly available data.

The Database also covers the long-term pipeline of BESS projects that are under construction, submitted for planning approval or with planning consent in place, which now totals 63,243MW/131,834MWh of capacity. We publish monthly updates on the latest dataset for ESN Premium.
