E-Storage, Canadian Solar’s energy storage subsidiary, has been contracted to provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services on the 411MW/1,858MWh Skyview 2 battery energy storage system (BESS) in Edwardsburgh Cardinal, Ontario, CA.
The project, developed by Potentia Renewables in collaboration with the Algonquins of Pikwàkanagàn First Nation, was awarded under Ontario’s Long-Term Reliability (LT1) energy storage procurement process.
Notablly, 1,858MWh appears to be the project’s nameplate capacity. Potentia lists the capacity of the project as 411MW/1,560+MWh which is understood to be tied to the project’s contracts.
The nameplate capacity indicates the maximum amount of energy the project can theoretically store in ideal conditions.

E-Storage, as the turnkey EPC provider, will supply around 390 units of its proprietary SolBank 3.0 energy storage solution for the project.
The company launched an enhanced version of its SolBank 3.0 BESS solution earlier this year. It aims to increase its annual production capacity from 20GWh at the end of March to 30GWh by year’s end. However, its yearly battery cell production capacity will stay steady at 3GWh.
Shipments of Skyview 2’s SolBank solutions are expected to begin in February 2026, with commercial operation planned for Q2 2027.
The company will handle system integration, substation work, and balance-of-plant tasks, excluding the high-voltage transformer and HV switchgear, along with the transmission line connection to the existing grid infrastructure.
Furthermore, e-Storage will offer a 21-year Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA).
Canadian Solar recently shared its Q3 2025 financial results, showing a growth in energy storage sales.
E-Storage delivered a “record” 2.7GWh of BESS in Q3, exceeding its guidance of 2.1GWh – 2.3GWh.
Ontario’s Office of the Premier, Doug Ford, announced Skyview 2 had begun construction on 12 November, also claiming it to be the largest BESS in Canada.
The office added, “With electricity demand in Ontario forecasted to increase significantly by 2050, Skyview 2 marks an important milestone in Ontario’s clean energy transition and will play a vital role in supporting the province’s clean electricity grid.”
Ontario has implemented significant policy changes to integrate energy storage into its electricity grid. The province’s Integrated Energy Plan aims to boost storage capacity and expand transmission networks to support distributed storage solutions.
Ontario has more than two-thirds of the grid-connected storage, totalling 486MW, while Alberta has over a quarter, with 190MW.
In May, Ontario more than doubled its energy storage capacity when IPP Northland Power’s 250MW/1,000MWh Oneida Energy Storage project in Haldimand County became operational.
Potentia Energy is a joint venture owned by Enel Green Power and INPEX. In August, it received the first environmental approval for a grid-scale BESS under South Australia’s new Hydrogen and Renewable Energy (HRE) Act.
