Life after takeover for the company formerly known as Younicos – a pioneer of grid-connected energy storage, acquired by mobile energy solutions provider Aggreko for around US$50 million and now targeting the commercial off-grid market as Aggreko Microgrid and Storage Solutions.

While the company remains active in other sectors and recently sold large grid-scale battery storage projects in the US and Europe, along with data centres, getting solar and batteries to replace diesel and other fossil fuels at off-grid industrial sites is both a viable business model and a way to “inject” solar into the global energy mix in a smart – and economical way.

Energy-Storage.news editor Andy Colthorpe spoke with Aggreko Microgrid & Storage Solutions MD Karim Wazni. Filmed at this year’s Intersolar / ees Europe in Munich, Germany.
