SaltX Technology and Vattenfall have signed off on a Letter of Intent to lead a pilot program based on SaltX’s large-scale energy storage technology — EnerStore.

Siemens has helped start a smart grid pilot project in Rotterdam that will connect 20,000 homes with renewables and storage facilities.

The latest project to be dubbed “Europe’s largest battery” will be a 50MWh project from Dutch energy supplier Eneco and Japanese conglomerate Mitsubishi Corporation in Jardelund, Germany.

A containerised flow battery dubbed the ‘largest’ such system in the US has been matched for size by another system dedicated last week in Snohomish, Washington.
