The project involves Kokam's Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) battery technology as well as NANO battery technology.

Work on the project began in June and is scheduled to be completed by December this year.

Ike Hong, vice president of Kokam's Power Solutions Division, said: "We look forward to deploying this new 36MW Energy storage system for KEPCO and continuing to support its effort to install 500MW of energy storage capacity for frequency regulation by the end of 2017.

Back in March, Kokam had already provided storage solutions to KEPCO. These included two NMC batteries of 24MW/9MWh and 16MW/6MWh as well as a 16MW/5MWh Lithium Titanate Oxide (LTO) system.
