Jinko ESS has announced the commissioning of a 1MWp solar PV system paired with a 1.08MWh air-cooled Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Nigeria’s Oyo State. The installation forms a critical part of the 11MW hybrid power initiative launched by the Oyo State government to enhance energy access and sustainability across the region.
The project is owned by Elektron, with Royal Power and Energy, a trusted Jinko partner in Nigeria, serving as EPC contractor for the solar plant. The hybrid system, fully integrated with a gas turbine, is designed to deliver stable, reliable electricity to critical government facilities, while also powering public lighting across a 10-kilometer radius under the state’s flagship “Light-Up Oyo” initiative.
Lukmon Abdulrasheed, Jinko ESS Technical Service Supervisor, commented: “This project is a strong demonstration of what public-private partnerships can achieve in accelerating the clean energy transition in Africa. By reducing carbon emissions and strengthening energy reliability for public infrastructure, the Ibadan Hybrid Project stands as a model for sustainable development in the region.”
